Dr Sue van LeeuwenDr Sue van Leeuwen

Dr Sue van Leeuwen is the CEO of Leadership Western Australia which is an independent, not-for-profit organisation whose vision is to enhance leadership excellence across the state of Western Australia. Leadership WA facilitates leadership development and provides communty service to the not-for-profit and community sector. The company enjoys support from the corporate and government sector. Sue is a Fellow of Leadership WA, having participated in the inaugural leadership program in 2004.

Prior to this, Sue enjoyed roles in the health and education sector, her most recent being as the CEO of a national research centre, through the WA Institute for Medical Research at The University of Western Australia. During her time at The University of Notre Dame Australia, Sue held the roles Associate Dean of the College of Health, Assistant Provost, and Associate Dean of Business. In the past, she has held positions as the Manager of Primary Health Care in the South West, the Faculty Manager at Edith Cowan University’s Bunbury campus and as the Executive Director of Swanleigh.

During her career, Sue has undertaken a number of academic qualifications including a Bachelor Applied Science, Post Graduate Diploma, Graduate Diploma Business (Management), an Executive Certificate in Quality Management and a Master Business Administration. She also has a Doctorate in Business Administration and has undertaken research in the area of leadership and innovation in the public sector.

Sue also works with the Australian Institute of Company Directors as an accredited facilitator in the area of company decision making and strategy and enjoys working with aspiring and experienced company directors. In her commitment to excellence in governance, she has undertaken the Company Directors Diploma as well as the Mastering the Boardroom, Advanced Diploma with the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Sue is a Director on a number of boards including Amana Living, Anglican Homes Foundation, McCusker Learning and Development, Community Leadership Australia and All Saints College.

During her adult life, Sue has lived and worked in the North West, Great Southern and South West areas of Western Australia. Sue is married with two adult daughters and a grand daughter and her hobbies include reading, walking and photography. Sue and her husband have a tree farm in the South West of Western Australia.
